About Me
It all began in a typical middle school classroom in suburbia. As the September sun streamed in through the large windows, we obediently repeated the strange-sounding phrases after our teacher: Bonjour, bonsoir, comment ça va? It was my first day of French class, and utterly unbeknownst to me, that day marked the beginning of a love affair that would shape the course of my entire life.
A BA, MA, and PhD in French later, I now live with my fiancé (Nico) in a cute stone house in the Poitou (a region halfway between Paris and Bordeaux) across the courtyard from Nico’s brother and sister-in-law, across the street from his parents, down the road from his aunt and uncle, up the hill from his grandparents, and amidst a tribe of free-range cats.
In my blog, you will find snippets of my everyday life in France, from candid camera moments in French administrative offices, to observations of general Frenchness and baffling cultural experiences, all with a healthy dose of humor. So come along, jump into my 1988 Ford Fiesta with me as we drive along the sometimes absurd path of my non-Parisian life.
